A downloadable game for Windows

What is Shimeji Adventure?

Shimeji Adventure is a 2D Platformer fan game based on and starring the Shimeji Desktop Pets by Yuki Yamada of Group Finity. Shimeji Adventure (as its name suggests) is where you get to play as the Shimeji themselves (or any other characters if you mod them in).

You can go through up to 6 levels (2 of which are only available in Freeplay Mode), and even go through a short Story Mode (though it'll get longer as the game's update goes by).

This game is still in its Demo State, and there will be updates as time passes. So stay tuned where there's more news and updates for this game.

Mod Support

Mods are the main focus for this game. You can do Custom Characters (up to 80 of them), Custom Levels and Bosses (up to 77 of them). The game alone is open source for those who want to mod the game at their own will, or even make Custom Characters and Levels for the game alone. There will be Guidance and Videos to come on how to mod the game. So, stay tuned for that.

As a parting gift with the game's first release, you can try out the game's first modded characters from your truly,  Blue Test Ball & Red Test Ball, both from another mod project of mine, "Friday Night Funkin' x Pop'n Music Demo Mod". Think of them as your first DLC.

Known Issues/Bugs

Do keep in mind that the game isn't perfect itself, though it's still playable. Some bugs are lurking that I am aware of, and going to fix them throughout updates as shown:

  • If you die while carrying a grabble object, you can still hold it down and throw it. This isn't supposed to work this way, as it should instantly make you drop the item as soon as you die.
  • The settings that you've saved are not loaded in from the get-go as soon as you boot up the game again. For it to load back in, players have to go to the settings menu at all times if they want it back loaded.
  • When the character has 2 health left, the spikes will hurt the players twice, killing them instantly. This will be fixed by the next update.
  • Sometimes, the enemies' hitboxes don't hurt the players (such as when they're rising and lowering from vertical moving platforms.
  • There are rare times when the Shimeji's animation will break, and it will be stuck with one frame after losing a life. This will be investigated, and fixed by the next update.
  • In Story Mode, you can still collect the same triangles that you have found. Adding it up to more than 12.

Without further ado, download the game and give it a shot! Have fun.

Do let me know if there are any problems or bugs! This is my first game that I've made from the ground up! Your support will be very appreciated and helpful!

(1 edit)
  • When jumping on a spring while spacebar is held, if it's released while in the air, the vertical momentum resets.
  • When jumping and quickly changing direction, could the momentum switch way quicker? Or do you plan to keep it that way?
  • The player sprite looks farther apart from the climbable wall, they should be closer together.
  • When talking to an NPC while crouching, crouching state doesn't come off even when I released the down key. It got back to the regular state when I pressed the down key again.
  • In the boss fight, after holding and releasing a green square, the player got stuck in the "holding an item" state (without actually holding a green box) for reasons unknown? I couldn't get out of it. It doesn't even make me crouch.

Thanks you for the feedback. Gonna fix them up during the next update!

But yeah, thanks again!

As for the "could the momentum switch way quicker?"

I'm just gonna leave it as it is for now just to play it safe.

Also, with "the player got stuck in the 'holding an item' state (without actually holding a green box) for reasons unknown?"

This only happens when the Shimeji take damage while holding a grabbable object.

Gonna need to fix that in the future. Thanks for letting me know.
